‘Tere Bina Zindagi Se’ Song Meaning and Lyrics

Movie: Aandhi (Storm) [1975]
Starring: Suchitra Sen and Sanjeev Kumar
Singers: Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar.

Aandhi is a 1975 Political Movie portraying the fictional version of the life of the late Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The song speaks volumes about yearning and love, in it’s purest form. In the movie, both the protagonists are separated because she’s the daughter of a rich politician and he’s a poor hotel manager. Years later, when they meet again, she’s the Prime Minister and he’s still managing a hotel.

Their social statuses prevent them from coming together, so they keep meeting in secret. The video of the song portrays a love that’s not shown through action, but through eyes. A wonderful song to listen to.

The situation of this song is that it’s one of their secret rendezvous and she tells him that actually, without him, there would be no problems in her life. But at the same time, without him, her life wouldn’t be like life.

Meaning:

Tere bina zindagi se koi… Shikhwa… Tho Nahi
Shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi…
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin… zindagi… tho nahi…
Zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi…

Without you, there will be no complains in my life
No complains, no complains, no complains…
Without you, however, my life will be like I have no life
No life… no life… no life…

Tere bina zindagi se shikhwa… tho nahi…

Without you, there will be no complains… in my life…

Kaash aisa ho tere kadmon se chun ke manzil chale…
Aur kahi… door kahi…
Kaash aisa ho tere kadmon se chun ke manzil chale…
Aur kahi… door kahi…
Tum agar saath ho… manzilo ki kami tho nahi…

I wish that I could choose the path laid by your footsteps and reach my destination
Somewhere else… Far away…
I wish that I could choose the path laid by your footsteps and reach my destination
Somewhere else… Far away…
If you are there with me, there’s no lack of destinations…

Tere bina zindagi se koi… Shikhwa… Tho Nahi
Shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi…
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin… zindagi… tho nahi…
Zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi…

Without you, there will be no complains in my life
No complains, no complains, no complains…
Without you, however, my life will be like I have no life
No life… no life… no life…

Jee me aathaa hai tere daaman me sar jhuka ke ham…
Rothe rahe… Rothe rahe…
Jee me aathaa hai tere daaman me sar jhuka ke ham…
Rothe rahe… Rothe rahe…
Tere bhi aankhon mein… aasuon ki… nami tho nahi…

In my heart, I wish that I could hide my head in your chest…
And just keep crying… And just keep crying…
In my heart, I wish that I could hide my head in your chest and let out my tears…
And just keep crying… And just keep crying…
But even in your eyes, there’s no wetness of tears [Meaning: Even though he wants to cry along with her, he is holding himself back just like her]

Tere bina zindagi se koi… Shikhwa… Tho Nahi
Shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi…
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin… zindagi… tho nahi…
Zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi…

Without you, there will be no complains in my life
No complains, no complains, no complains…
Without you, however, my life will be like I have no life
No life… no life… no life…

Tum jo kaehedoge aaj ki raat chaand doobega nahi…
Raat ko… rok lo…
Tum jo kaehedoge aaj ki raat chaand doobega nahi…
Raat ko… rok lo…
Raat ki baat hai… Aur zindagi… baaki tho nahin…

If you just tell me once, the moon will not set tonight…
I will stop the night in its tracks…
If you just tell me once, the moon will not set tonight…
I will stop the night in its tracks…
This is just a matter of one night… Not the rest of our entire lives…

Tere bina zindagi se koi… Shikhwa… Tho Nahi
Shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi… shikhwa nahi…
Tere bina zindagi bhi lekin… zindagi… tho nahi…
Zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi… zindagi nahi…

Without you, there will be no complains in my life
No complains, no complains, no complains…
Without you, however, my life will be like I have no life
No life… no life… no life…

COMMENTS:

This song happens to be a personal favourite of mine. Lata Mangeshkar’s voice is like a Nightingale’s. And Kishore Kumar totally nails it. This song’s haunting and the tune stays with you, like, forever. A true Evergreen classic!
